Running a venture portfolio from a Mediterranean base

People assume running several companies means being in the room for all of them. In my experience it is the opposite. The more each venture is built to run without me in the room, the healthier it gets — and the more useful I am on the days I show up.

A Mediterranean base makes that discipline unavoidable. The day here has its own order: deep work in the morning, when my head is sharpest, family in the afternoon, the evening for the table. Distance forces the operating system to carry the weight, which is where the weight belongs anyway.

None of it works without writing things down. Decisions, trade-offs, the reasoning behind a call, captured once and readable by anyone at any hour. Asynchronous by default is not a remote-work slogan. It is how a small team stays coherent across a portfolio without living in meetings.

The finca is not an escape from ambition. It is an operating decision. I think better here, and the companies are better for it. A good system travels; build it well enough and it stops mattering which coast you run it from.
