Building in public without performing for the feed

Building in public has a failure mode, and it is a quiet one. Somewhere between being honest and building an audience, the work starts bending toward what performs. The number becomes the point. You end up performing the building instead of doing it.

The fix is not secrecy. It is choosing what deserves to be said. A trade-off that took a week to reason through earns a place here. A win staged for applause does not. The test I try to hold: would this be worth reading if no one were counting?

I have learned to tell the two states apart by how they feel. Building gives energy back. Performing drains it. When an opportunity needs me to be someone else to make it work, it is a no, however good it looks from the outside.

So this journal keeps to one idea at a time. No noise. The plan is to publish how things actually run — the calls, the doubts, the days without a playbook — at a pace that respects your attention and mine. If that means fewer notes, good.
